College vs College
A debate surfaced in The KYX slack this week after Otavio launched a Molotov cocktail debate around a tweet from Palantir.

The gritty, self-starter KYX crowd lobbed š£ after š£ at the college industrial complex.
āIāve never met a decent operator who credits their college degree to teaching them anything useful.ā
"If we listened hard enough, weād hear people say every CS program in the country becomes useless the second you have to write actual code."
Waste of time. ā³
Insanely priced. šø
YouTube is better. š„
Just start a company instead. š
The take: If youāre sharp, self-motivated, and know how to learn, college is a four-year detour that teaches you about doing things instead of actually doing them. Youāll drown in outdated theory, rack up debt, and graduate with a rĆ©sumĆ© that looks exactly like everyone elseās.
Theyāre not wrong.
But hereās a view from another lens. š
College, for many students, isnāt about the degreeāitās about the reps. Itās the first time most have to stand on their own. Mommy and Daddy are subtracted from the equation, and suddenly, no oneās waking you up, solving your problems, or cushioning your mistakes. Itās a crash course in real-world responsibilityābut with just enough guardrails to keep you from total collapse. You gotta show up. Deadlines donāt move. And if you screw up, you feel itābut the stakes arenāt fatal.
Thatās where discipline gets built.
Where accountability starts to stick.
And in the middle of all that, youāre surrounded by a dense, high-potential networkāpeers who will become your co-founders, investors, lifelong friends. The classroom might fade, but the structure, relationships, and self-discovery often last. š
Soādoes the cost of that experience pay off over a lifetime?
For some, sure.
For many, it doesnāt.
And thatās the real problem, one both sides can agree on:
š The cost is out of control.
Woah. Hot take. IKIK
But it matters.
At $100K+, college is asking teenagersāmost with zero financial literacyāto make one of the biggest bets of their lives. No guaranteed payoff. No clear path. Just a six-figure gamble on a maybe. š²
Thatās not a moral failure.
Itās a market failure.
And thatās why the college debate isnāt really about whether the experience mattersā
Itās about whether the price makes sense in a world full of alternatives.
KYC ā KYX
Probably should have led with this.
After a month of intense debate, weāve landed the planeāfollowing a little dust up with our pals over at Y Combinator
For those not up to speed: Y Com let us know that āKYCombinatorāāalong with our image and likenessāseemed to infringe on their brand.
Not totally sure how they got there... š¤·āāļø

Anyway, they asked us to stop ripping off change our name or else ā and we obliged.
